Understanding OCD

What Is OCD?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is a chronic condition characterized by two components: obsessions — unwanted, intrusive thoughts, images, or urges that cause significant anxiety — and compulsions — repetitive behaviors or mental acts performed to temporarily relieve that anxiety.

The relief from compulsions is always short-lived. The obsessive thought returns, the anxiety builds again, and the compulsion must be repeated — creating an exhausting, time-consuming cycle that can take over daily life.

OCD affects approximately 2.2 million adults in the United States. It is not a character flaw or a sign of weakness — it is an anxiety disorder rooted in unconscious patterns, and it responds very well to hypnotherapy.

Recognizing the Signs

Common Obsessions & Compulsions

Obsessions

  • !Fear of contamination from germs, dirt, or illness
  • !Intrusive thoughts about harming yourself or others
  • !Unwanted sexual or religious thoughts
  • !Need for symmetry, order, or exactness
  • !Fear of losing control or acting on impulses
  • !Excessive doubt and difficulty tolerating uncertainty

Compulsions

  • Excessive hand washing, cleaning, or sanitizing
  • Repeatedly checking locks, appliances, or switches
  • Counting, tapping, or repeating words silently
  • Arranging objects in a precise, "just right" way
  • Seeking constant reassurance from others

The Solution

How Hypnotherapy Treats OCD

OCD lives in the unconscious mind — and that's exactly where hypnotherapy works.

1

Breaks the Obsession–Compulsion Loop

OCD is driven by unconscious anxiety responses. Hypnotherapy interrupts the loop at its source — rewiring the automatic trigger that connects an intrusive thought to a compulsive behavior.

2

Reduces Underlying Anxiety

Compulsions exist to temporarily relieve anxiety. By resolving the root anxiety through hypnotherapy, the compulsive urge loses its power and naturally diminishes.

3

Addresses Root Causes

OCD often develops from unresolved past experiences or deeply held fears. Dr. Siebert uses regression techniques to identify and neutralize the original source driving the obsessive patterns.

4

Builds New Responses

Hypnotherapy installs new, healthy unconscious responses to triggering situations — so instead of anxiety and compulsion, you experience calm and control.

Why Hypnotherapy Works for OCD

The Unconscious Mind Is the Key

Traditional OCD treatments like Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy work at the conscious level — they teach you to resist compulsions through willpower. This can be effective, but it is often slow, uncomfortable, and exhausting.

Hypnotherapy takes a different approach. Because OCD is driven by unconscious anxiety patterns, hypnotherapy works directly at that level — accessing the unconscious mind to identify the root cause of the anxiety, neutralize it, and install new, healthy automatic responses.

The result is not just symptom management — it is genuine, lasting change. Many clients report a dramatic reduction in obsessive thoughts and compulsive urges after just a few sessions with Dr. Siebert.
